? What is the 2nd Death
It is to be cast into the Lake of Fire
It has been taught that the first Death of man comes when a person dies physically, that is the first death, and the 2nd death is being cast into the lake of fire. There is a phrase that has been taught “Born once, Die twice – Born twice, Die once and maybe not once if we are raptured” and what they are saying is when, you are born into this world you have a spiritual death and a physical death: the spiritual death occurred when Adam and Eve ate from the tree, they were forbidden to eat from and was cast out of the Garden of Eden, which is another false teaching along with a person actually passing away physically, is the first death of a person.
If you read my post on Death on my web site you would have learned about Death – which simply means separation from Life, which is GOD “Jesus” who is LIFE. Now, if you are a Bible thump-er like me you know, that we are dead – due to Sin and are made alive in Salvation “Born Again” ”Saved” because of first repenting, second trusting in Christ Jesus alone for our Salvation and truly understanding Jesus’s work on the Cross
To better understand the 2nd Death, let us delve into the 1st Death, just a tad more.
Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV) 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
The moment that Eve ate, she DIED and gave to Adam too eat he DIED. You see only Adam and Eve were created in the Image of God a Triune being a Body, Soul and Spirit – Spirit which is God, who is LIFE that moved out of - Adam and Eve; who are now a Body, Soul- spirit form of the body and a Conscience, no longer in the image of God. Do not get confused like so many, it is true that the Soul of a person is referred to as man’s spirit in some passages but not in this verse, but it is just the spirit form of the Soul in the shell in which we live in in this world, it is how we will be recognized in the realm to come. The Holy Spirit of God was put into Adam when God breathed Life into Adam when he was created and moved out when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Have you ever watched the movie the Matrix, where Neo is battling Morpheus and is getting his butt whipped and Morpheus looks down at Neo and says you think that is air you breathing? Let, me ask you? Do you think, because your heart is pumping blood through your veins, you are ALIVE?
LOOK at and ponder these next verses of God.
Matthew 10:28 (KJV) 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
The emphasis has been on the BODY a lie straight from Satan, a tool that he uses to keep a person enslaved to this world- both too the lost soul to keep them from the Cross and Jesus and too the Christian from being used of God in doing what He has called them to do in bringing others to the Cross and Jesus

Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
All of humanity died and is awaiting Judgement. When Adam ate the forbidden fruit and DEATH passed unto all his children – Men, Women, and children.
Romans 5:12 (KJV) 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
So, when people pass from this world into the next, they go to either Heaven “Paradise” or Hell the Realm unseen here on the earth
Which brings us to the 2nd Death
Revelation 2:11 (KJV) 11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Revelation 20:6 (KJV) 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Revelation 20:14 (KJV) 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Revelation 21:8 (KJV) 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Again, you may have died once but You do not have too Die the 2nd time.
